Quick Tips - Hair: Dry? Brittle? Dull? Frizzy?

I haven't posted in a long while because of a whole bunch of things that have been happening lately but I had an urge to post something today so I thought I'd squeeze in this baby post!

So anyways, as it's starting to get a lot colder now, I'm sure you've already started noticing the effects this is having on your hair, much like I have...

Dry? Brittle? Dull? Frizzy?

I always take note of these 2 key points to ensure my hair is looking it's best and if you do too, your hair will probably thank you this Winter!

1. PRODUCTS:

I would recommend a decent shampoo and conditioner designed for DRY / DAMAGED hair. Obviously it's not good for your hair to keep changing up your products all the time so I would suggest using the DRY / DAMAGED version of the brand you already use.

I personally use this V05 Give Me Moisture range which is designed for dry hair.

2. WASHING / CONDITIONING:

I won't patronise you by telling you how to wash your hair...I'm sure you all know how to do that!

The key things here are: a) the conditioning process and b) what time of day you do it.

  • So firstly, make sure that after you've washed your hair, squeeze / wring out as much water from your it as you can before applying conditioner - it stops the conditioner becoming diluted and helps it to grip the hair better and avoid sliding off.

  • Apply the conditioner in 3 stages - concentrating on roots, mid section and tips - make sure every bit of your hair is coated, even the roots (I know this usually results in greasy hair much quicker, but it's colder, your head 'sweats' less so I personally find it doesn't make a huge difference)

  • Tie your hair up in a bun / ponytail / whatever you can that works with your hair length to get it out of the way of the shower spray and being washed off straight away. Ideally the longer it's left on the better so this works best if you're having a long bath really but otherwise leave it as long as you can, wash your body / shave / wax / whatever first, just leave it on for as long as possible.

  • Rinse 1/2 of it out with your normal shower temperature water first then turn the shower as cold as you can bear it and rinse another 1/4 out. Leave 1/4 still in your hair and wring it out.

**This is best done in the evening / at night because sleeping on slightly damp hair results in less frizzy hair as opposed to letting it dry naturally during the day or blowdrying, plus it's better for your hair!**

Then just follow your normal haircare routine but make sure if you're going outside, to tie up hair / hide it under a hat (particularly the problem areas like the ends) to protect it from the elements and take it down when you're inside!

Two key things to note but it's all about focussing on hydrating your hair, keeping it nourished and replenishing the moisture you draw out of it through washing away the natural oils and this method works perfectly for all of the above so theres no need to fork out for expensive hair mask treatments to achieve the same results!
